Being a server is far from all "holy" work. As well as enjoying the fellowship offered on a Sunday morning, team members often meet for lunch in a local city centre hostelry. The Team offers fellowship and support for each other and looks forward to hosting other servers from other churches in our diocese and from other cathedrals. This page is mainly aimed at members of the team and the Cathedral Community and gives details of the events and socials that are open to them. There is an annual party, and we enjoyed a visit to the recent Coventry Beer Festival at which the Head Server was seen to be enjoying (?) a half pint of "Sheepshagger" ale! Although the favourite was the premium stout, at a rating of 8 per cent it was powerful stuff.
Prayer and Study Group
All Servers and former servers their partners/friends and supporters are invited to join our Prayer and Study Group, we meet the first Wednesday of the month. You are invited to drop into the group whenever you can and do not feel you have to make a commitment to coming each month. The group decides the programme.
Previous Trips
Here is a report on one of our previous social events.
On Saturday 2 June 2001 we were the guests of the Dean's Verger at Westminster Abbey. We had a great day out, and enjoyed seeing the Jerusalem Chamber, St Edward's Tomb, and visiting the Undercroft where we were able to see the priceless vestments given to the Abbey by various monarchs. Perhaps the stars were those vestments given by Charles I, which were very interesting to see. Lunch was taken on the terrace of the Dean's Verger's apartment overlooking Westminster College green. Many thanks to the Dean's Verger for his hospitality and fascinating tour. Watch this page for future days out. David retired in February 2003, and is enjoying his retirement, which we hope will give him more time to come back and see us.
Westminster Abbey
We are looking to host other servers teams from other churches and cathedrals and have exchange visits, so if you are a member of another team please email me and let me know (for email address please go to Contact Us).
