To many of you reading this Page, you probably think of a server as being that electrical box of tricks that enable the Internet and computer connections to run. Servers in Church are those people who assist the clergy in leading the worship offered by the Cathedral, be it a Communion service, a festal evensong, a national event or any act of worship.
The Servers not only lead the clergy and choir in procession using the Cross and Candles, but carry out a practical role. They ensure that the bread and wine and other essential items are in the right place at the right time so the worship enjoyed by the community runs smoothly and with dignity. The Servers add to the drama and spectacle with their robes, the Candles, Cross and on special occasions the tall red Banners of the See of Coventry which help to link the congregation with what is happening at the front of the Cathedral.
The Servers Team consists of a wide ranging age group, it is open to both sexes and has people from all walks of life. In donning the robes we become one team, not just an individual but part of the whole.
